Pedram Bral, MD
Fellowship Director of Minimally Invasive Gynecologic Surgery
Maimonides Medical Center
Best of Maimonides Award
Dr. Pedram Bral is a leader in the groundbreaking use of robotics to treat gynecologic health issues. He came to the United States as a teenager and worked hard to learn a new language while continuing his studies. He went on to become one of the pioneers in the field of gynecologic robotic surgery, and soon after developed and became the director of Maimonides’ Fellowship Program in Minimally Invasive Gynecologic Surgery.
Dr. Bral completed his postgraduate training at SUNY Downstate and his residency in gynecology at Maimonides. A member of The American College of Obstetrics and Gynecology, and American Association of Gynecologic Laparoscopy, he has published extensively and is actively involved in research. He deeply values higher education and accepts it as his personal responsibility to educate the next generation with the most advanced, state-of-the-art technology.
Besides his brilliant medical career, Dr. Bral is well known for his civic leadership. In a landslide victory, he was recently elected to his second term as Mayor of the Village of Great Neck, New York, where he resides with his wife, Samira, and their four children. “Having grown up in an authoritarian country, I have come to love the benefits that a democracy affords,” he said in his post-election speech, stating his goal to make Village government more transparent, accessible and responsive towards its residents. To that end, Mayor Bral encourages public comment and participation at board meetings and monthly gatherings, and makes himself directly available to residents via email, phone and social media. He devotes himself to stabilizing the Village’s finances, building up its business district, and generally enhancing its quality of life with his vision, integrity and genuine understanding of his neighbors’ needs.
Maimonides Medical Center is proud to recognize Dr. Bral as a genuine Champion of Healing, and we look forward to honoring his myriad accomplishments with our Best of Maimonides Award.
